Royal Roots & Early Education

TPL (Prince) Effiong Akpan was born on February 12, 1965, into the royal family of Late Chief Etim Akpan Ntukidem of Ikot Ayan Itam, Itu LGA, Akwa Ibom State. He began his educational journey at St. John’s Catholic School (1971–1977), proceeded to Itam Secondary School and later the Cross River State School of Basic Studies, Akamkpa.

Academic & Professional Qualifications

He holds a B.Sc. in Geography and Regional Planning from UNICROSS (1991) and an M.Sc. in Urban and Regional Planning from UNIUYO (2005). He became a corporate member of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) in 2010 and a registered member of the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC) in 2012.

Career Highlights

Prince Akpan started his career as a Geography teacher (1994–1999), before joining the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Urban Development in Akwa Ibom State. He has served in key roles such as:

  • Uyo Zonal Town Planning Officer

  • Head of Town Planning, Uyo Capital City Development Authority

  • Director, Regional Planning/Development Control

  • President, Compatriot Family of Nigeria (1999–2002)

  • Chairman, NASSI Itu Chapter (2000–2008)

  • PRO, NITP Akwa Ibom (2009–2012)

  • Current Chairman, NITP Akwa Ibom State Chapter

He has also contributed to government and community development through various committees and youth-focused initiatives.

Prince Akpan is widely recognized for his commitment to community service and church development. He was honored as an Ambassador of Light by The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Uyo Field, for his transformational efforts.

He has represented Nigeria at international conferences/workshops in Ghana, South Africa, Manchester (UK), and the World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi.

Personal Life

He is happily married to Mrs. Ndifreke Effiong Akpan, and they are blessed with three children. His hobbies include travelling, reading, and football.
